A recent study by researchers in France revealed that people struggle to understand the cues of unhappy cats compared to contented cats. The study, which involved 630 online participants, found that nearly one third of respondents misinterpreted the cues of unhappy cats, while only around 10 percent misinterpreted the cues of contented cats. The researchers suggested that people should consider both vocal and visual cues when trying to understand their cats’ behavior. The study examined videos showing different cat behaviors and concluded that humans need to pay attention to a cat’s meows and other vocalizations as well as visual signals such as tail movements and body posture.
